Eleven – Colored Pencil

This took me FOREVER but here’s Eleven from Stranger Things! I love how my art teacher gives us so much room to express our own interests and personalities in our projects.

The goal was to create a colored pencil drawing from a reference, cropping it to create a unique composition. I realized soon after starting this drawing that I did not choose the easiest reference. The neon lights and unnatural colors on her face definitely created a challenge for me. I exaggerated those colors a bit more to create a bright and intense look.

It’s not perfect, but I’d say it’s a pretty good start considering I’ve never attempted a realistic human face in this medium before. I’ll definitely be doing more of it in the future!

Striped Optical Illusion


Another project from art class! This one was really fun, surprisingly easy (although a little time-consuming) and I think it all came together really well. It reminds me a little of Dr. Seuss books.

My colored pencil skills have definitely improved through this practice. I’m going to be working with them more in the near future.

Shattered Value Rose

In case you haven’t noticed already, I’ve kind of given up on Inktober this year. But I’ll try again in 2021!

This was a project I did for school called “shattered value.” We could “shatter” anything we wanted, and I chose a rose as my subject. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but by the end I thought it looked really nice.

Through doing this project, I learned a lot about lighting, values, and shading techniques. Not to mention patience—coloring all of those boxes took FOREVER! But I think my hard work paid off, because the piece turned out very neat and clean (in my opinion, at least).
